21 DAYS OF PRAYER & FASTING

January 7th - January 27th


Often the beginning of a new year brings with it new years resolutions. We're believing that 2019 is going to be a big year for our church and are inviting you to join us in resolving to prioritize God in the new year as we commit together to a 21-day prayer and fasting journey that we're calling: #DETOX

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

what to do

Throughout this 21-Day Journey we invite you to join us in the following ways:


// 01 //

Worship with us. Join us on the following Sundays — January 6th, 13th and 20th at 10am at Resonance at Soma Towers. We’ll also be hosting 2 special Nights of Worship & Prayer on Tuesday, January 15th and Tuesday, January 22nd from 7pm - 8pm at the Soma Towers Media Room (3rd Floor, South Tower).


// 02 //

Pray with us. We believe that prayer should be our first response, not a last resort. We invite you to commit to praying daily and consecutively for 21 days, even if it's only 5 minutes a day. Below you'll find an overview of our daily prayer focus that will help unify us in prayer as we seek God's heart together on a variety of topics starting on January 7th. You are encouraged to follow along at our #DETOX Daily Blog for daily reminders and inspiration on what and how to pray. If prayer is new for you, check out this Prayer Starter Kit that will provide some helpful tips to begin praying.

Fast with us. The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. During our 21-day journey, we encourage fasting as a spiritual next step that can bring clarity and revelation into your life as you pray and seek God in this season. There are a variety of ways to fast. Below, we've provided a few different resources and recommendations for you that will help you discern what type of fast might make most sense for you.

Serve with us. We’ll conclude our 21-day prayer and fasting journey by coming together as a community for Fourth Sunday Serve on Sunday, January 27th and then will end our fast together by sharing in a simple community meal together afterwards. Stay tuned for details!

HOW TO FAST

In addition to this time of prayer, we would love for you to join us in fasting over the next 21 days!

Whether you decide to give up a certain type of food or take a break from social media, this form of self-denial, when used to focus on prayer, will align your heart with the heart of God. It is a time where we quiet ourselves from the distractions around us, so that we can hear from God more clearly. Fasting isn’t about losing weight, it’s about gaining vision.

Your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. Please remember that every person is different and you should only choose what is a healthy and safe choice for you.

Below we have provided a few suggestions of possible fasts:

+ 21 Day Liquid Fast - Give up solid foods, drinking only liquids

+ 21 Day Daniel Fast - Fruits and vegetables only

+ 21 Day Selective Fast - Remove certain elements from your diet

+ 21 Day Media Fast - Give up social media & television

+ 7 Day Fast - Fast with us for 7 days

+ Lunch Fast - Fast with us over lunch each day

+ Once A Week Fast - Fast one day of the week (ie: Wednesday)

+ Create Your Own Fast - Ask God what you can give up

And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
